Frequently Asked Questions

Maintaining good oral hygiene is essential to avoid tooth decay and gum disease. A healthy mouth can help you keep your teeth for a lifetime and prevent health issues such as heart disease, stroke, and diabetes. So, how can you maintain your oral hygiene at home?

Tips for Keeping Your Teeth and Gums Healthy

Follow these oral hygiene tips for a healthy mouth:

Brush twice a day – Using fluoride toothpaste and a soft-bristled brush, brush your teeth and tongue for two minutes in the morning and evening.

Floss each day – Floss between each tooth once daily to keep your gums healthy and avoid tooth decay.

Eat a well-balanced diet – Focus on lean meats and vegetables and avoid too many sugary drinks and snacks. If you eat or drink something that contains sugar, rinse your mouth afterward or chew sugar-free gum.

Drink plenty of water – Keep your body hydrated; drinking water produces saliva. This helps eliminate bacteria in your mouth.

Visit your Boulder dentist – Be sure to schedule regular visits to your dentist for dental exams and cleanings.

The Importance of Dental Checkups

Here are the reasons dental checkups are so important:

Tooth decay prevention – Even if you brush and floss regularly, it’s impossible to remove all of the plaque and tartar from your teeth. Professional teeth cleaning can remove harmful plaque and tartar, helping you avoid tooth decay.

Gum disease prevention – Regular dental checkups allow your dentist to look for signs of gum disease and begin treatment before it worsens.

Oral cancer prevention – As part of your dental checkup, your dentist will look for signs of oral cancer. Oral cancer often goes undetected.

Other health issues prevention – Your dentist will examine your head and neck, checking your lymph nodes and jaw for any signs of illness.
