Family Dentistry at Diagonal Dental of Boulder

Family dentistry in Boulder focuses on general and preventive care, such as:

  • Routine cleanings and exams – We recommend visiting the dentist every six months to maintain good oral health and catch issues like tooth decay and gingivitis before they become severe. Checkups also ensure your child’s teeth and jaws are developing properly.
  • Fluoride treatments and sealants – Fluoride treatments and dental sealants effectively prevent cavities, especially in children.
  • Cavity checks and dental fillings – Tooth decay is common but preventable. It’s perhaps the most prevalent childhood disease today. Dr. Amedro can identify and fill cavities for patients of all ages so you and your family can enjoy problem-free smiles.
  • Periodontal care – Periodontal (gum) care includes deep cleanings, like scaling and root planing, for gum disease patients.

Dr. Amedro also offers cosmetic and restorative dentistry in Boulder, including veneers, teeth whitening, bone grafting, dental implant restoration, crowns, and bridges.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes, we see kids! Our Boulder dental office typically starts seeing children around age three. At this age, we do a “happy visit,” where we introduce ourselves, count your child’s teeth, and let them ride in the dental chair. Once they’re comfortable with us, we can perform a gentle exam and cleaning.

Dental Exams and Cleanings for Kids

Our team at Diagonal Dental of Boulder enjoys working with kids and teens. Whether your little one needs a sealant, filling, or standard cleaning, we’re always pleased to help them attain a healthy, happy smile.

During the dental exam, we do the following:

  • Thoroughly examine your child’s teeth, gums, and jaws
  • Check for signs of tooth decay, gum disease, and other issues
  • Take x-rays if needed
  • Check tooth and jaw development

If Dr. Amedro finds tooth decay or gum disease, we’ll discuss treatment options and oral hygiene habits.

One of our gentle hygienists begins the cleaning by checking for cavities and examining existing fillings. We then perform a periodontal (gum) exam to ensure their gum tissue is healthy and tightly adheres to their teeth.

Next, we carefully clean your little one’s teeth by removing plaque and tartar and expert flossing. Finally, we polish their teeth, so they’re shiny and fresh and finish off by applying fluoride.

Creating Healthy Smiles That Last a Lifetime

Routine dental visits for preventive exams and cleanings protect your smile and safeguard your overall health. There are clear links between oral health and systemic health concerns, which is why it’s essential you maintain your oral health and wellness.

For example, bacteria that cause infection in the gum tissue can also contribute to other health problems by traveling through your bloodstream. Gum disease has been connected to the following issues:

  • Heart disease
  • Diabetes
  • High blood pressure
  • Dementia
  • Stroke
  • Pregnancy complications

Preventive exams and cleanings consistently protect your health and well-being when we can identify and treat issues like gum disease in the early stages.
