How to Prevent Dental Emergencies and Protect Your Smile

Maintaining a healthy, functional smile is crucial to overall wellness. emergency dentist boulder

Dr. Amedro recommends the following to reduce the risk of a dental emergency:

  • Practice excellent oral hygiene, like brushing twice daily and flossing once daily, to clear away plaque and tartar that lead to tooth decay and gum disease.
  • Eat a nutritious diet and drink plenty of water to keep your teeth and gums healthy.
  • Wear the appropriate protective gear––including a mouthguard––when participating in physical activity, like skiing, snowboarding, mountain biking, hockey, and football.
  • Wear a nightguard if you grind or clench your teeth during sleep.
  • Get routine dental exams and cleanings to ensure your smile stays problem-free.
  • Consider taking vitamins, like vitamins A-D and calcium. These vitamins are excellent for maintaining gum health, strengthening teeth, and reducing the risk of gum disease and tooth decay.
